The pattern will look best with a solid colour (colors), ombre or a long gradient yarn. The pattern is very easy to memorize and gives you a lot freedom for your creativity. You can make your item as large as you need. As well you can make smaller squares and join them together.
The pattern is appropriate for intermediate level crocheters. For beginners it would be challenging. For more experienced ones this would be a fun and relaxing project.

ch - chain

Beginning ch2 and ch3 count as st.
Information about the color change:
If you are using more than one color to create a visual effect as in the pictures above change the color when you start an even round (2, 4, 6, …). Cut the previous color yarn and fasten off.
Changing two contrasting colors on each round is an option that creates different visual effect.
